Andrew Lawler’s awards include the 2009 Gene S. Stuart Award from the Society of American Archaeologists for a series of stories on the Indus civilization for Science Magazine. The award committee cited his “thoughtful, informative, understandable, and sensitive articles about archaeological research” written “with great clarity.”

Two other magazine articles (one for Discover and one for Archaeology) earned a place in Best of American Science and Nature Writing, while a third received an honorable mention.

Lawler also is a recipient of an MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship.
